Hold that, Play this.

Hey hey music lovers!!! So I've wanted to write this bit for a long while..... But, I've been hella busy with The magazine, as well as the radio show which all of you should check out!

Magazine-www.Introduceyourselfzine.com

Radio- www.Sickworldradio.com

Some of you may know the bands in which I'll be discussing, Most ( or a good amount at least ) will not, Which is perfectly fine because I'll provide links where you can find the featured bands & there music and in some cases music videos. Moving on..... One day I was at a show chatting it up with several friends. the topic was how often local bands experience line up changes. So I got to thinking.... Why not inform my fellow metal brethren which changes have been made & perhaps get some input from not on the bands, but the new members as well.

- Burning Fair Verona -

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/burningfairverona?fref=ts

Robb Gates ( New Bassist )

1. Why bass opposed to guitar or drums?
A: "Because everyone wants to be the guitarist and or
drummer,I dug into it because there were not many bassist and apparently bands always told me it's the hardest component to a band to find."

2. Do you have any side projects?
A: "Yes I do they're on the back burner,CHEMIKAL and my solo Stuff PicKillBucket"

3. How did the opportunity present itself?
A: "What opportunity,I guess I'm there at the right time."
4. Are you originally from FL?
A: No I was born n south Carolina but lived most of my life n a small Ohio town of Van Wert, then moved here and haven't looked back.
5. Do you have any other hobbies?
A: Not lately, but when I have time I like to take walks/ride my bike
6. What was the making of the video like?
A: Amazing, considering we all had only 3hrs of sleep each,it went off without a hitch, Evan out guitarist runs a tight ship :)

- Path to Prevail -

Shawn Goree (New Bassist)

1.How did the opportunity present itself to play with PTP??

A: "Ive known the guys in PTP for a while because my old band "Forever Silly Beans" shared a practice place with them at a tattoo shop. Tom and Erich contacted me as soon as Ian was unable to play with them and I jumped at the opportunity."

2. What has the experience been like so far?

A: "I've had a blast since I've joined PTP (Path to Prevail) and hope to take things to the next level, cant wait to hit the open road."

3. What is your personal writing process like?

A: "Erich and Alex do the song writing, and then I add my bass lines and input."

4. What is your favorite metal genre?

A: "Hmmm since I don't really listen to metal I gotta go with
my hardcore roots."

5. Name 5 bands that you can't stand.

A: "Let's see Nickleback  has to be the worst band on the planet but, 3 Doors Down is a close 2nd,  Korn is vile..... Godsmack and to finish I'll go Disturbed."

6. What has been your favorite show with PTP so far

A:  "Fav. show so far is most deff playing with Dying fetus and
Cattle Decapitation."

-Servants of the Mist-

Kenny Nguyen ( New Bassist)

1.How has your time with servants of the Mist been so far?

A:  "t's been a great time so far, long but awesome practice
sessions, with no drama whatsoever. That's a big plus in my book."

2.Have you had any stage time with them yet?

A:  "Nope, but we're playing on the 21st for that end of the world show at the mug. It'll be the first time the band has played live since I joined a few months ago."
3. Are you in any side projects?

A: "Yes, I'm working on several different projects at the moment. I'm in Thee Ramblin' Woodsmen, which is a band that really has no clear definition. We switch up on instruments sometimes, but it's mostly acoustic guitar, with bongos too. It's just about having fun and getting drunk. I'm also doing guitar for a stoner-rock/doom project, which I'm very excited about. There are songs about warriors and beasts, and all that good stuff, but I don't believe we've settled on a name for the band yet."

4.How long have you been a musician?

A:  "I don't know how to answer that. I like what I play, and I play what I like, but I don't feel like I'm a musician. There are too many people who I would consider real musicians, that can read music and are much better equipped at composing and performing it than me."

5.How long have you been apart of the local metal scene?

A:  "Since sometime in the summer, I guess that would be 5 or 6 months? Maybe less, to be honest I haven't been keeping track."

6. What is your preferred metal genre?

A: "Whatever genre I happen to be playing at any given moment is my favorite. That's a boring answer though, so I'll say if I have to pick and choose only one genre of metal to listen to for the rest of eternity it would be stoner rock/metal. That includes anything heavy, sludgy, or doomy as well as groovy, bluesy, or psychedelic. I like music best though, when it's hard to define what it is."

-Foreshadow-

Chris Billingsly

1. What instrument do you play?

A:  "I play the bass!"

2.What has your experience been like so far?

A:  "Mexperience has been nothing but great. for every band and every song I've been involved with"

3. What are some of your favorite bands?

A: "My favorite bands usually come from my favorite bassist i would have to say Primus . Les Claypool is my mentor and second Korn because Fieldy would have to be second on that list."

4.How long have you been with Foreshadow?

A: "I've only been with foreshadow for about 4 months now .. I know I'm new in it but our music is the heavy hard stuff I've always wanted to get into."

5.What is your most favorite song to perform?

A: " My most favorite song would have to be "the stranger within" it's about horror movies Freddy being the main and live it is a site to see."

Legacy of Last mins.

For those of you whom don't know last Friday was the Gwar show, which took place at The Ritz in Ybor (Tampa), FL. The rest of the bill consisted of Cancer Bats, Devil Driver, & Legacy of Disorder, which I had the pleasure of Interviewing. I going to give you a little insight of not only the night of the show but what I had to do to prepare for the show & interview.

So I was contacted a week ago,  by a colleague & close friend who was to originally supposed to do the verbal portion of the interview asking if I wanted to accompany him to the show to help out wit the interview. Meaning I would be the one to hold the camera, which I don't have an issue with at all. especially when I'm not too prepared with the artist that's being interviewed. The plan was I was to pick him up and then we were going to head to the show together. The night before he called me stating he was unable to make the show or interview do to family matters. I was pretty much in shock, then panic set in. Shock, because I've never known him to change plans so abruptly & panic because now I was left to not only do the verbal portion of the interview...... but I had to find a camera man, I had to contact the venue as well as the musician / band that I was to interview and try to get the names changed on the tickets & photo pass. Not to mention I was completely unprepared when it came to questions......  I was stressing out pretty bad when I called and all I got was answering machines. It wasn't only the interview I was worried about missing.... and not to sound selfish, but I really REALLY wanted to see Gwar as well.

The show started at 6PM, Rana Freilich ( guitarist of "Legacy of Disorder") returned my call at around 2PM which caused my stress levels to pretty much dissipate. Freaking out about not having questions, luckidly the person who bailed on the interview had a few, he sent them over & I reworded them. PHEW done & done. Next goal? HAD TO FIND SOMEONE TO HOLD THE CAM!! I asked a friend of mine to do it, he said sure why not and BAM that was that...... upon arriving to The Ritz I asked a staff member where I was to pick up my tickets photo pass ( around the side of the building) then, proceeded to wait somewhat patiently for my friend to arrive. All the while missing Legacy of Disorder's set. Little fun fact, I had never heard of LOD's music prior to the interview & now I had missed their set. : / I kinda felt like a horrible person hahaha

The interview was scheduled to take place at 8:30, I wondered around and chatted with some friends that happened to be there. at 8:45 I received a text from Rana asking if the interview was still taking place & if so to met him at the merch table. So I headed that way, slightly nervous, mainly because of all of the events that took place to even walk through the damn door, oh the fact that I had never heard their music didn't help AT ALL. anyway blah blah blah, So Rana, my cam fella & I proceeded to walk to their bus to do the interview and the door dude informed us that my cam man wouldn't be allowed back in because he didn't have a photo pass. So it was either go do the interview and not be allowed back in to see the rest of the show, or just stay in and we would figure it out on our own once we got into the bus. We decided to go with the second option.

Once upon entering the bus, I found a spot to sit while Rana prepared for the interview. While waiting LOD's Drummer ( Matt Thompson) entered askig Rana to move the bus because the Cancer bats had to load their equipment. Not too long after that James Robinson ( the vocalist) entered the bus, we exchanged names, shook hands. I was under the impression that I was only going to be interviewing Rana & lucked out with getting to interview James as well. Before starting, cam in hand I gave them the little back story, and told them I was slightly nervous, So they offered a PBR, I accepted, we spoke about random things for a time then we proceeded with the interview ........... which is as follows

After the interview I hung out for about an hour or so and just chatted it up with James about the nerdiest, dorky, geeky things, from Star Wars, to Harry potter, he didn't believe me when I told him I was into the nerd stuff, then like on cue I got a call and my Game of Thrones ringtone rang out, he couldn't help but chuckle.... I told him how I had never seen the movies, or all of them anyway and that's when he told me and  I quote " There are two things EVERYONE should do before they die, 1. Read the Bible (He informed me that he isn't a Christian, but not an Atheist) & 2. Watch Star Wars." Over all both Rana & James are pretty awesome, humble dudes. If you guys happen to get the chance to see them live do it!

James sent the one below from the bus while on tour :)

Interview: Death Angel & Threat Signal.

Soooo If you read my last entry ( If you haven't go do so..... it's a vlog for crying out loud...) you know that I had the opportunity to interview thee AWESOME, Death Angel along with Threat Signal. I also got to meet the Lead Vocalist of Bound By Blood Mauro Gonzalez. But yes, edited of course, by the owner and operator of www.introduceyourselfzine.com, Mr. Tim Morris. As I promised here are the interviews......

Death Angel

Threat Signal

I had an utter blast with both interviews! Though you can't really tell that mere seconds before it actually started I was just about shitting bricks. Obviously I was much more nervous interviewing Death Angel being that they are pretty much legends at this point..... I T-Rex armed it and all. I'm proud of myself for not being a complete pud and going through with it. I was originally going to decline the offer, but I felt opportunities usually on present themselves one in a life time....... and It was a MUST that I interview the band that kinda had a helping hand with starting it all.

Interview: Another Life Spared

I would like to give a warm thank you to Dillon Tuttle, Greg Moir, Kevin Ruffo & Vaughn Downard-Mobley; the memebers of "Another Life Spared" for taking the time out of their very busy schedules to answer these questions. I Wish nothing but the best for you guys in EVERY venture and avenue you seek out!!

1  1. A while back I contacted you (Greg Moir) When I was working on one for the Pieces of my blog (www.Metalena.blogspot.com) You didn't take it upon yourself to answer on behalf of the entire band, you spoke to the rest of the members to get their input. Which is pretty rad in my opinion. Do you guys find that you naturally or instinctively work as a collective unit or do you often compromise when trying to seek a conclusion?

Greg:  Well, we’re a cohesive unit here. We HAVE to be in order to survive let alone get anywhere professionally. We’re all in this together, and therefore, we find it easy to run business by everyone before we take a step forward with most things. If a decision has to be made on the spot then we do what we can for what’s best for the band.
Kevin: I’d say it depends on the song. We do not have 1 or 2 members who write all our songs. All 6 members help each other out and give ideas and work to build each song together from the start. With that said, that usually means not everyone will completely agree with everything. It will go around the room in discussions, we may sleep on it for a few practices, but ultimately every one reaches a compromise and we usually move forward pretty smoothly. Other times some songs seem to come together pretty quick with very little headache: “Vengeance”, “Cataclysm”, and “In My Head” are some examples of the latter.
Dillon: Depending on the subject of the matter I feel that we as a band usually are on the same page with the right decision. Though sometimes we have to compromise.
Vaughn: It varies from topic to topic. Sometimes we're all in the same boat, other times we have divided opinions. Fortunately tensions haven't really escalated high enough to cause any heated conflict over such situations

2. Which one of your songs do you feel you identify most with??

Dillon: I would say Closure because it captures many elements and is ear catching all at once.
Kevin: Identify most with….humm… Truthfully I am a big sap, so I would have to say our ballad “Never Forget”. Listening to it and even playing that song live I get a little emotional on the inside. It just brings me back to some past emotional feelings.
Greg: Vengeance. I’m a ruthless metal head at heart and that song is nothing but relentless aggression at the core. It’s so raw and unadulterated!
Vaughn: It's hard to say. Maybe Vengeance would be my best pick.

3. Closure is one of your newer songs, what was the biggest influence for the composition of the song musically not lyrically?

Kevin: Ahh “Closure”, that is one of my favorite songs of ours to play. With how diverse it is, with so many different elements in that song, if I remember correctly, it mostly came together pretty quick… That is except 2 parts. The big bridge and another part that I don’t remember, but we were stuck on those 2 parts for what seemed like months. Everything we did, we just didn't like. One day we said, you know what, if it doesn't work, lets not try to force it to make it work, just ax that trouble part completely. Suddenly we all sat back and said.. ya know what, we should have done that months ago, Because it totally works without that part. haha
Dillon: The main influence in my eyes for this song was not to write just your average metal song, but to write a song with many elements of music with a variety of sounds.

4. How has the devotion of the members of Another Life Spared change or impact your lives?

Greg: This has certainly been the most serious project I've ever been a part of so I feel a great attachment for all these guys. I honestly cant picture playing music with any other group of individuals.
Kevin: One thing they others can attest is I’m not the kind of person who will let others hold me back. I am very driven and motivated. So being in a group with like-minded individuals is very important to me. In this group we are very open with the rule of if any of us are flat out slacking, and not pulling our own weight, it is not a secret that any of us will be replaced. Which I think is a good way to have it, we can be the best of friends, but if we want to advance as a whole, we can only move as fast as our “slowest” member.
Vaughn: It's motivated me to further myself in all aspects of music, from playing to theory and recording.
Dillon: It has been a relief to find such great musicians that possess the talent and dedication that is required to be a successful band. It’s also a relief to be able to have fun while doing what we love while being serious musicians

5. (Directed at Kevin Ruffo) As a drummer do you have any mentors? Who would you say is your biggest influence?

Kevin: Well the two drummers I mainly followed growing up were Danny Carey (Tool), and Raymond Herrera (ex-Fear Factory). Although it’s hard for me to say weather or not a bit of their style comes out in my drum writing. I guess that is something the listeners would be better at telling me what influences they hear.

6. Greg,Dillon,& Vaughn same question

Greg: oh wow, that’s a really tough question for me since I actually try not to let individual musicians directly “influence” me as much as I have them “Inspire” me. I would say though, “Dimebag” Darrell Abbot with his stage presence, while still maintaining that crazy skill and solid playing is a real inspiration.
Vaughn:  I have no mentors or teachers. I've learned everything I know on my own. My biggest influence without question would be Steve Harris of Iron Maiden.
Dillon: I am all self-taught when it comes to guitar.  I have a variety of influences ranging from Periphery to Metallica.

7. Being that Another Life Spared is slightly larger when it comes to band member population, in your opinion has the size been detrimental? What are some perks to having a larger band?

Dillon: For smaller stages it can be very difficult but we make it work, but in my opinion there are more pros than cons to being a larger band. For instance in the writing process more ideas are brought to the table and an obvious pro is more people for loading and unloading equipment.
Vaughn: In my opinion it can be a bit tough when trying to make a smaller stage work with constant close calls to running into each other or sharing space. But all in all it's not too bad. I think more people helps with interacting with more people and the loading/unloading process.
Kevin: Oh man sometimes it is so hard fitting all the equipment and all the members on stage. We have 6 members and not a small amount of equipment either. We have played a show or two that a member couldn't fit at all, and they had to play the show off the stage, there was just no room for everything. Granted I don’t have the same issues of running into each other the front 5 do. But it’s also not fun when one of them trip up on, or bumps a drum mic stand and knocks it all out of placement on my kit (which happens quite a bit actually, unbeknownst to them). Then in the middle of the song I have to keep trying to play, and attempt to find quick moments I can try to fix the problem.
Greg: The size of our band is both good and bad. It’s bad for small stages and bad for ideas and opinions that disagree.  But it’s good for creativity with song ideas, good for equipment loading/unloading, and good for companionship. We’re a big family here with very unique personalities that makes every step of the way interesting on so many levels.

8. There for a bit Vaughn Downward-Mobley (bassist of ALS) was indecisive about disbanding. Care to give your fans some insight? & had he left, did ALS has another bassist lined up or in mind?

Yes a few months ago Vaughn made a decision to step aside, but ultimately decided to return and remain an active member of “Another Life Spared”. This was a decision he made and there was no bad blood before, during, or after his decision. We all love him as a brother but as a group none of us can force anyone to be apart of it. We have a policy that no one is a “hired gun”, if someone is unhappy or wants to move on, they are free to walk if they so choose with no hard feelings. I see it as a positive outlook when we have only had 1 member change in the last 2 years. Tells me this current long time lineup is happy with where they are at.

9. Are you guys still working on the recording process?

We know MANY people have been growing impatient waiting for it, and asking us to explain what is going on. The recording for our forthcoming EP has been done for some time now. It’s just been a post production issue getting it to a point that we are happy with it. It shouldn't be too much longer. We are so excited for the day that we can get this thing out to you guys.

10. What is your absolute favorite thing about being a musician? & more importantly a musician of Another Life Spared?

Vaughn: The enjoyment of sharing the stage with a group of motivated and talented brethren.
Dillon: Writing awesome music and playing shows with great friends and accomplishing things I never thought I would.
Greg: I love playing music in a live setting. The rush of seeing a crowd go nuts after we finish a song is the ultimate natural high for me! I've spent many years trying to get where I’m at today and it’s been one hell of a trip full of memories that I’ll never forget. I've been very fortunate to have the support of so many people just to continue doing what I do, and to share this experience with 5 of my closest friends. My only hope is that we can continue to grow together as a single unit the farther we go down this path!
Kevin: Honestly playing music is my drug. I love it, I am addicted to it, it is all I need. I am relentlessly dedicated to it and everything involved that goes into it. It can be very hard work and very stressful at times, but getting on stage to play a show, looking out and seeing a crowd, and even more so seeing friends and people you know, make all the work completely worth it. Those are some of my happiest moments in life. To do all this with 5 people I don’t just call band mates, but friends, means the world to me.

I have said this before, but I feel more people need to understand how a musician feels. It’s not a secret at all..  If you want to know how to make a musician smile, to boost him up when he is feeling down, to have an great night, and at that moment feel amazing about life.... Just show up. That is all you have to do. When we see your face in the crowd at a show, it makes every ounce of "pain" go away for the night.

So I wanted to say thank you to each and every fan, friend, family member, promoter, venue owner, photographer, artist, etc.. Who has had a hand in helping push ALS. It is so hard to thank each and every one of you personally at time, but don’t think we don’t take your support close to heart. We remember and appreciate everything you all have done for us. Thank you!

POLITICAL RANT #1

Check it, I normally don't get involved with politics.... I keep the shit to myself.... & I'm more than most likely only going to rant just this time.

Imagine having some tard( I use the term tard loosely ) having a job for 8 years, mind you this guy makes up words while giving speeches that the ENTIRE world is viewing or is to view & all the while he is the one who represents us as a nation. ok ok so he has this job for 8 years... we get into debt, terrible tragedies occur, we go to war yet again . ect..... Then its time for reelection and you (pretend you're in Obama's shoes) get elected.... you're the first African American President, (which shouldn't matter) you walk into you're new life and have the tard before you, his mess thrown into your lap and are expected to clean it all up whilst making new, effective strides.......

Open your fucking eyes people. Stop believing what you read, see & hear because you're not being told all of the information anyway. If you're going to fight about something why not it be about better education for you're children, why not ban all of this ridiculous shit they show on TV that you're children watch and look up to. Everyone is so worried about whats going on in the white house when there are so many issues going on closer to home. Kids, people go hungry everyday, single moms who need assistance and can't get it, Kids who want to get into college but don't have the funds so they are denied, yet kids who have the money go, but don't take shit seriously.

I'm beyond tired of hearing about Romney and his Gayness, or how poorly Obama ran/runs things. IF you think you could do a better job why don't you run? Oh you have to have loads of doh oooooh I see.... You noticed that there isn't a Native American running..... you know the ones we stole this "GREAT NATION" from?? It would be A LOT different!! They had one tribal chief & a small group of elders. The most noble and wisest..... Not the man who bribes his voters with false promises & money....

*phew rant over*

I know there are many miss spelled words as well as wrongly used yours...... but... atm >>>>LOOK AT ALL THE FUCKS I GIVE<<<< NONE.

Interview: Deathtruck

This is an interview with the fellas of Deathtruck: Chris Savopoulos - Lead Guitar/Lead Vocals, Anthony Edmiston - Guitar/Vocals, Peter Tavoularis - Bass/Vocals, Chase Henderson - Drums

I thought it would be a bit fun to ask them a few questions, being that I know pretty much null about this 4 man band from Palm Harbor, FL. & I figured not many of you who are apart of the local metal music scene also new nothing, or very little of them. so without further anticipation.......... I give you Deathtruck :)

1. You guys are still fairly new to the local metal

scene, how are you fellas liking it?

Chase: “Stoked to be out of the garage.”

Peter: “We're so thankful for all the fans we've

gained since only March. everyone has been

very welcoming.”2. Have you been bombarded

with ridiculous

amounts of advice? If so what was the best

advice as well as worst advice given?

Peter: “We haven't really been bombarded with

advice, actually.”

Anthony: “The best advice we've been told is "If

you're going for it, go full force. You have to

want it"

Chris: “The worst advice "Get a real job" or

"Have a plan b"

This is our plan A.”3. How was DeathTruck

established?

Chris: “It started off in 2008, when Chase and

Anthony had a jam band.”

Anthony: “Peter and Chris were in a band

together also. Chris went to jam with me and

Chase, and later Chris wound up leaving Peter's

band. In need of a bassist, I asked Peter to fill

in on bass from guitar.”

4.What came first, the song or the naming of

the band?

Anthony: “The name came first, but we had the

instrumentals for an unnamed song that we

later called DeathtrucK.”

5. I was recently jamming to your tunes &

couldn't help noticing a slight Metallica like

sound. Would you say Metallica is influential to

DeathTruck? If so what are some other musical

influences?

Chris: “Yes, Metallica is a huge influence on us

all and individually.”

Peter: “As a band, Trivium, Metallica, Machine

Head, As I Lay Dying, Opeth, Avenged

Sevenfold, Pantera."

6.I've had the pleasure of seeing you guys play

a couple of months back in Tampa at The Brass

Mug. You guys seem very at home on stage. Do

any of you get preshow jitters?

Chris: “For a lot of us, it's different.”

Anthony: “No I wear a kilt on stage.”

Chase: “Sometimes the smaller the crowd, the

more jitters.”

Chris: “If half of the show likes you and half

hates you, its better to have a lot of likes as

well.”

7. DeathTruck has a song entitled "Fallen

Messiah" Do your personal beliefs figure highly

into what you create? & If so how do you

convert what you feel & believe into the frame

work of your music?

Chris: “The song itself was by Anthony and me.

I'm a Christian, while Anthony is an atheist. It

was a weird project that somehow came

together. My lyrics brought in with Anthony's to

create a story line of the fall of Antichrist."

8.Do you dudes currently have a demo out? If

so where can those whom may be interested

find it??

Peter: “Yes we have a demo, but we burn them

ourselves. We sometimes hand out copies at

shows but we will make one if someone asks.

We plan to go into the studio soon and have

physical copies and digital downloads. We are

on ReverbNation and Facebook.”

9. What is DeathTruck's biggest goal for 2012?

Chris: “Keep playing anywhere and everywhere

we can.”

Peter: “Hopefully before the end of the year we

can get in the studio and record our debut EP

and hope that the right people hear it.”

You can find them at the following sites:
