Interview: Aaron Rodriguez of Ovid's Withering.

Just to make it clear this Interview was taken on August 6th 2012.Sorry for the delay.  I've just been slacking I suppose, due to being under the weather & all.

Interview with Aaron Rodriguez, guitarist & composer, of Ovid's Withering.

1. "Is this Ovid's first show since "The Metal Showcase" (May 13th)

Aaron: "Yup"

2. How are you guys feeling about the show that is taking place this Friday? (August 10th) at the Local 662??

Aaron: "It'll be fun."

3. Have you guys been working on any new material?

Aaron: "Well the album, musically is about 90%  written... right now all I'm doing is going back & touching up & changing parts here & there...& writing all the lyrics.

4. In your opinion what do you feel are more important? Lyrics, music or both?

Aaron: Both I am more proud of our lyrics than anything, but ... since people rarely take the time to read , I'd say the music is definitely important too lol.

5. For those whom are interested in reading Ovid's lyrics where might they find them?

Aaron: www.lyricswithering.blogspot.com

6.Ovid's Withering has one EP out entitled "The Cloud Gatherer", is the new material going to be a full length album?

Aaron: "We plan on releasing one full length & simultaneously working on an EP of a different style...... That EP is entitled "Terraphage"

7.Any idea when fans can expect said release?

Aaron: "We have our own ideas & goals...... but we won't make it official until we know for sure it will happen."

8. What can fans expect from the new material?

Aaron: Every song has a completely different story & every story has a completely different mood. So...I would say they can expect it to feel like watching a really long, but bad ass movie.

9. When writing are are there ever specific vibes you wish to capture?

Aaron: "Meaningful. Dramatic. Theatrical. Dark. & most importantly.....EPIC.

10. Do you feel that your  sound had evolved over the length of time that Ovid's has been established?

Aaron: "Oh a ton. When I started, we only wanted keys as a background/filler. Now......our orchestral parts are what makes us who we are.

11. Lastly, where can those reading this find Ovid's Withering work??

Aaron: www.ovidswithering.comhttps://www.facebook.com/ovidswithering

Stuffs I've been up to: Part 1

First of all I would like to apologize for the post delay. I have been somewhat sick lately & thought it best to focus on getting better so I could get back to doing what I love most, which is bringing you the juiciness of the local underground scene. & when I say juiciness, I don't want people misconstruing the statement as in I'm interested in rumored hype, or personal details of the musicians lives..... phft... I'm no cackling goose!! I'm here to fill my readers/viewers with what they wish to read/hear ALL THAT IS MUSIC!! From the dates dropping new albums to which bands are touring. Yes, yes I have been dragging ass!! I'm full aware!! Things will begin to pick up fairly soon.

I'm also looking into jazzing this hot mess of a blog up really soon too! So look out for that as well. For those of you whom may read the blog quite frequently, whom just happen to be loyal readers or whatever you prefer to call yourselves ( I don't like to refer to you as fans.... because that just means that I've earned some recognition for what, I'm not entirely sure....) but anyway. yes. If you read this and didn't know; there is an interaction page via Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/pages/Metalena/246346608805651 I check it daily so feel free to contact me when ever you feel the need. If you have questions about bands that have been featured, perhaps ideas about topics you wish me to cover, or even just to tell me how much I suck. ANY & ALL questions or statements are welcome.

I suppose this Specific blog entry is just a little guts of what I've been doing in the past month or so....... hmmm... Welp lets see I've seen Decide play for the first time here in town at the Orpheum, & to be honest I was more intrigued with the lead's somewhat anti-social attributes pointed out by Prophecy z14's own Oz (bassist): (   https://www.facebook.com/pages/Prophecy-Z14/158571877507893  )    than their music itself. which saddens me a bit.

I'm not sure if my being turned off or shall I say lack of caring came from the douche clan, all of four individuals at max, that were trying to run the mosh pit( they were all of it, the four douche bags) or the dead crowd. Now when I say dead..... I don't mean there weren't that many people. Because, in fact the crowd was pretty large considering only four bands played that night & only one was a "In lights" kind of band. That, being Deicide. I'm thinking the crowd was dead do to such extent of the douche like behavior. which would be understandable. So yes. all in all I was quite disappointed with that particular show. Guess Its a good thing that Richard & Danny Smyth were playing a set down at The Market. Because I went & chatted to them in between sets;Which made that night so much more bearable.

The next show I attended was the Summer Slaughter tour. Which started out pretty shitty and ended gloriously!! so the night before I made sure that my vid cam was charged, my snappy cam was charged & the SD chip was empty. I had snacks, water, everything I could possibly need in a 8-10 hour time frame. So around 2:30 I get dropped off in Ybor & make my way to the Ritz where the show was being held. upon my arrival I'm told not only can I not bring my bag in, but there is NO REENTRY. o.O that's like the worst phrase you can EVER give a show goer. Anyway so I start to freak the fuck out!! I have nooo place to put my bag, because I've been dropped off, and everyone I know that going to the show are already inside... I for sure thought my day was a flop. Thank Darwin for Brandon Davis of Empty ( https://www.facebook.com/Emptyisdead   )  for being such a rad dude!! So he let me throw my bag in his bands trailer and whatnot and I'm all set to head inside..... I now notice that the dudes at the door are asking for ID's ( turns out I didn't need it to enter) so I'm shitting bricks because I couldn't find it, even though I didn't need it...... at this point I was so close to getting in I could taste it so to speak. I passed through one set of staff dudes then through the second set. & make my way to the dude who scans the tix....... "Have fun he says." I take a min to breath, make sure that what he just said, is what he just said. looked around in awe & think to myself ( I may have said it out loud too) LET'S GET METAL!!!

Found a group of my mates, said my hellos to everyone in passing, gave out more hugs than the president, maybe have even kissed a few people as well. eh who cares right?!?! I was on a mission. I was there to see one band. The almighty CANNIBAL CORPSE. Which was also a first for me. Feet aching after hours of standing Job For a Cowboy enters stage left & the crowd got a bit hooty as I like to call it. They start their first song..... & then out of no where the lead drops is mic, guitarist & bassist flee. Leaving the poor drummer stuck behind his kit not knowing what the fuck was going on. We the people are left in wonderment. Are they being divas, did someone have to poop really bad?? We wanted answers so naturally we began chanting. Which only lead to a short, bearded, red headed gent taking the mic all he could tell us was that something pretty serious had occurred and for our own safety we should all evacuate the building quickly & orderly. As soon as that was said, rumors and possibilities began to rise & billow about.I began txting anyone I knew who could have possibly already been outside. I received a response saying "There are cops outside with rifles."  O.O shit just got real. I told the group I was with what the message said and a hush kind of fell over the crowd...... upon exiting the Ritz, police officers roped off about a block or so and we were informed that if you crossed the barrier you were not allowed back in until things were cleared. It took about an hour.... but things were cleared up & we were allowed to reenter the building. Job took the stage yet again, & finished their set. blah blah blah blah blah..............

saw some people I wasn't expecting to see. Which was pretty awesome. So yes, then it was time for CANNIBAL CORPSE. I didn't get too hyped just yet I wanted to see if they were going to play muh jam "EVISCERATION PLAGUE" once I heard the intro I looooost it!! Jumped in the pit and went crazy lady. Broke the necklace I was wearing and all. would have to say that tiny sequence has made it into my highlighted moments at shows hahahah. just sucked that I didn't have my cam with me. Had to take poop pix with my phone. That show was a blast!! Not only because of the music, but because I was surrounded with some of the people that I really love!! You guys know who you are ; )  alrighty well I know this entry was pretty much pointless as bland. The next shall be a bit more fun.
