Changes......

Hey hey my lovely music loving minions!! Sooooo I have some news...... As most of you know I've been working with Introduceyourselfzine.com for the past year as a music journalist. As much as I love IYZ I strongly feel that It's about that time to part ways.

There have been some things to occur that I find less than professional and find it extremely hard to believe that they would have even happened. I won't go into details because they have enough to deal with already. No there isn't any beef. I still love and respect Bradley Dillon to the fullest. We just have different goals and ideas therefore BAM! Time to do muh own thing.

Once I start the new project i'll be sure to inform you guys with all of the details! Be excited because I most deff am! Thank you all for being so supportive over the past year! It means more than you could possibly know! I love each and everyone of you!

Feb stuffs.

Sorry the quality is so shitty! The lighting sucked, and I know I rambled.... oh and to be perfectly honest..... I haven't watched the video. So I don't know what the hell you're even seeing. Oh and another thing. I've never used blogger video to upload a video I usually just upload it to the MetalenanMinions youtube channel ( as I've done with this video as well) but for some reason I couldn't find it to post the link, eh it's all gravy. I've been slacking hardcore on the blog I'm fully aware, though I think that might just change guys! I'm going to try to do more blogs on the way to work and stuff like that. maybe on the way home from work, breaks... I'll just have to make more of an effort.

For all of you who take the time to actually read or watch I think each and EVERYONE of you from the bottom of my heart! I love you all sincerely!! If you have question or have a topic in mind that you would like me to cover or talk about via vlog or dedicating a whole blog to I would love to do so. All suggestions are more than welcome. As long as they some how relate to music.

365 days of growth

Last year (2012) was a monumental year for me in aspects based on career & musically too of course. Some of you are frequent readers and I thank you immensely for all of the support! It means more than you'll ever know!!

In the past year I went from derpy blog writer, to working for a magazine that is known globally  (no joke.), to having my own show on sick world radio.com. trust me when I say it's only the beginning.

I have to admit I feel pretty shitty about not keeping up with the blog. It went from being my most important project to being placed on the very VERY back burner. I told myself that I wouldn't let it slip because this is how it all started for me. Just sitting here blabbing away. Though I've let it slip I'm very proud of the other achievements I've accomplished in letting it do so; at least I know it wasn't for no reason at all.

The magazine ( www.introduceyourselfzine.com ) is going wonderfully. We're all working hella hard to become a printed publication and we're just nearly there. March 8th marks the date the very first printed issue drops and I think I can speak on behalf of EVERY staff member of IYZ when I say we are beyond excited! I've pulled many a sleepless nights freaking out about getting things done. and soon it will all be worth it. I love the magazine and everyone I get to work with through and through.

I've been published in 2 issues Full Access Magazine ( to be truthful the first issue actually had a show review I wrote. The second just had me listed as a writer) They actually offered me a position writing for them like officially where as before they just considered me a contributing writer. I had to respectfully decline. Mainly because he told me it was a conflict of interest and that I COULD NOT work with them if I was working for the other. So I had to stay where my heart and loyalty lie. I've put way too much into IYZ to just leave them high and dry that would have been super fucked!

Another things that I've recently been offered is a hosting position on a metal show for local cable TV. I've not got many details about that venture, but I'm still thinking it over. I'm pretty sure I would still have to do an audition and all.... I'm just not sure I would be very good in front of a camera... I don't know if I would be reading from a TelePrompter or if I would have to wing it.... It's all very exciting to think about. This I feel is a phenomenal opportunity that may only come once. So I should grasp it.

A close friend of mine and comedian Sam Basinger offered me to come do a pod cast with him as well which is also very very exciting! Many don't know but Sam is actually the one who gets ALL the credit for coming up with the name METALENA!!  You guys can reach Sam at the link below.

Hold that, Play this.

Hey hey music lovers!!! So I've wanted to write this bit for a long while..... But, I've been hella busy with The magazine, as well as the radio show which all of you should check out!

Magazine-www.Introduceyourselfzine.com

Radio- www.Sickworldradio.com

Some of you may know the bands in which I'll be discussing, Most ( or a good amount at least ) will not, Which is perfectly fine because I'll provide links where you can find the featured bands & there music and in some cases music videos. Moving on..... One day I was at a show chatting it up with several friends. the topic was how often local bands experience line up changes. So I got to thinking.... Why not inform my fellow metal brethren which changes have been made & perhaps get some input from not on the bands, but the new members as well.

- Burning Fair Verona -

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/burningfairverona?fref=ts

Robb Gates ( New Bassist )

1. Why bass opposed to guitar or drums?
A: "Because everyone wants to be the guitarist and or
drummer,I dug into it because there were not many bassist and apparently bands always told me it's the hardest component to a band to find."

2. Do you have any side projects?
A: "Yes I do they're on the back burner,CHEMIKAL and my solo Stuff PicKillBucket"

3. How did the opportunity present itself?
A: "What opportunity,I guess I'm there at the right time."
4. Are you originally from FL?
A: No I was born n south Carolina but lived most of my life n a small Ohio town of Van Wert, then moved here and haven't looked back.
5. Do you have any other hobbies?
A: Not lately, but when I have time I like to take walks/ride my bike
6. What was the making of the video like?
A: Amazing, considering we all had only 3hrs of sleep each,it went off without a hitch, Evan out guitarist runs a tight ship :)

- Path to Prevail -

Shawn Goree (New Bassist)

1.How did the opportunity present itself to play with PTP??

A: "Ive known the guys in PTP for a while because my old band "Forever Silly Beans" shared a practice place with them at a tattoo shop. Tom and Erich contacted me as soon as Ian was unable to play with them and I jumped at the opportunity."

2. What has the experience been like so far?

A: "I've had a blast since I've joined PTP (Path to Prevail) and hope to take things to the next level, cant wait to hit the open road."

3. What is your personal writing process like?

A: "Erich and Alex do the song writing, and then I add my bass lines and input."

4. What is your favorite metal genre?

A: "Hmmm since I don't really listen to metal I gotta go with
my hardcore roots."

5. Name 5 bands that you can't stand.

A: "Let's see Nickleback  has to be the worst band on the planet but, 3 Doors Down is a close 2nd,  Korn is vile..... Godsmack and to finish I'll go Disturbed."

6. What has been your favorite show with PTP so far

A:  "Fav. show so far is most deff playing with Dying fetus and
Cattle Decapitation."

-Servants of the Mist-

Kenny Nguyen ( New Bassist)

1.How has your time with servants of the Mist been so far?

A:  "t's been a great time so far, long but awesome practice
sessions, with no drama whatsoever. That's a big plus in my book."

2.Have you had any stage time with them yet?

A:  "Nope, but we're playing on the 21st for that end of the world show at the mug. It'll be the first time the band has played live since I joined a few months ago."
3. Are you in any side projects?

A: "Yes, I'm working on several different projects at the moment. I'm in Thee Ramblin' Woodsmen, which is a band that really has no clear definition. We switch up on instruments sometimes, but it's mostly acoustic guitar, with bongos too. It's just about having fun and getting drunk. I'm also doing guitar for a stoner-rock/doom project, which I'm very excited about. There are songs about warriors and beasts, and all that good stuff, but I don't believe we've settled on a name for the band yet."

4.How long have you been a musician?

A:  "I don't know how to answer that. I like what I play, and I play what I like, but I don't feel like I'm a musician. There are too many people who I would consider real musicians, that can read music and are much better equipped at composing and performing it than me."

5.How long have you been apart of the local metal scene?

A:  "Since sometime in the summer, I guess that would be 5 or 6 months? Maybe less, to be honest I haven't been keeping track."

6. What is your preferred metal genre?

A: "Whatever genre I happen to be playing at any given moment is my favorite. That's a boring answer though, so I'll say if I have to pick and choose only one genre of metal to listen to for the rest of eternity it would be stoner rock/metal. That includes anything heavy, sludgy, or doomy as well as groovy, bluesy, or psychedelic. I like music best though, when it's hard to define what it is."

-Foreshadow-

Chris Billingsly

1. What instrument do you play?

A:  "I play the bass!"

2.What has your experience been like so far?

A:  "Mexperience has been nothing but great. for every band and every song I've been involved with"

3. What are some of your favorite bands?

A: "My favorite bands usually come from my favorite bassist i would have to say Primus . Les Claypool is my mentor and second Korn because Fieldy would have to be second on that list."

4.How long have you been with Foreshadow?

A: "I've only been with foreshadow for about 4 months now .. I know I'm new in it but our music is the heavy hard stuff I've always wanted to get into."

5.What is your most favorite song to perform?

A: " My most favorite song would have to be "the stranger within" it's about horror movies Freddy being the main and live it is a site to see."

Legacy of Last mins.

For those of you whom don't know last Friday was the Gwar show, which took place at The Ritz in Ybor (Tampa), FL. The rest of the bill consisted of Cancer Bats, Devil Driver, & Legacy of Disorder, which I had the pleasure of Interviewing. I going to give you a little insight of not only the night of the show but what I had to do to prepare for the show & interview.

So I was contacted a week ago,  by a colleague & close friend who was to originally supposed to do the verbal portion of the interview asking if I wanted to accompany him to the show to help out wit the interview. Meaning I would be the one to hold the camera, which I don't have an issue with at all. especially when I'm not too prepared with the artist that's being interviewed. The plan was I was to pick him up and then we were going to head to the show together. The night before he called me stating he was unable to make the show or interview do to family matters. I was pretty much in shock, then panic set in. Shock, because I've never known him to change plans so abruptly & panic because now I was left to not only do the verbal portion of the interview...... but I had to find a camera man, I had to contact the venue as well as the musician / band that I was to interview and try to get the names changed on the tickets & photo pass. Not to mention I was completely unprepared when it came to questions......  I was stressing out pretty bad when I called and all I got was answering machines. It wasn't only the interview I was worried about missing.... and not to sound selfish, but I really REALLY wanted to see Gwar as well.

The show started at 6PM, Rana Freilich ( guitarist of "Legacy of Disorder") returned my call at around 2PM which caused my stress levels to pretty much dissipate. Freaking out about not having questions, luckidly the person who bailed on the interview had a few, he sent them over & I reworded them. PHEW done & done. Next goal? HAD TO FIND SOMEONE TO HOLD THE CAM!! I asked a friend of mine to do it, he said sure why not and BAM that was that...... upon arriving to The Ritz I asked a staff member where I was to pick up my tickets photo pass ( around the side of the building) then, proceeded to wait somewhat patiently for my friend to arrive. All the while missing Legacy of Disorder's set. Little fun fact, I had never heard of LOD's music prior to the interview & now I had missed their set. : / I kinda felt like a horrible person hahaha

The interview was scheduled to take place at 8:30, I wondered around and chatted with some friends that happened to be there. at 8:45 I received a text from Rana asking if the interview was still taking place & if so to met him at the merch table. So I headed that way, slightly nervous, mainly because of all of the events that took place to even walk through the damn door, oh the fact that I had never heard their music didn't help AT ALL. anyway blah blah blah, So Rana, my cam fella & I proceeded to walk to their bus to do the interview and the door dude informed us that my cam man wouldn't be allowed back in because he didn't have a photo pass. So it was either go do the interview and not be allowed back in to see the rest of the show, or just stay in and we would figure it out on our own once we got into the bus. We decided to go with the second option.

Once upon entering the bus, I found a spot to sit while Rana prepared for the interview. While waiting LOD's Drummer ( Matt Thompson) entered askig Rana to move the bus because the Cancer bats had to load their equipment. Not too long after that James Robinson ( the vocalist) entered the bus, we exchanged names, shook hands. I was under the impression that I was only going to be interviewing Rana & lucked out with getting to interview James as well. Before starting, cam in hand I gave them the little back story, and told them I was slightly nervous, So they offered a PBR, I accepted, we spoke about random things for a time then we proceeded with the interview ........... which is as follows

After the interview I hung out for about an hour or so and just chatted it up with James about the nerdiest, dorky, geeky things, from Star Wars, to Harry potter, he didn't believe me when I told him I was into the nerd stuff, then like on cue I got a call and my Game of Thrones ringtone rang out, he couldn't help but chuckle.... I told him how I had never seen the movies, or all of them anyway and that's when he told me and  I quote " There are two things EVERYONE should do before they die, 1. Read the Bible (He informed me that he isn't a Christian, but not an Atheist) & 2. Watch Star Wars." Over all both Rana & James are pretty awesome, humble dudes. If you guys happen to get the chance to see them live do it!

James sent the one below from the bus while on tour :)

Interview: Death Angel & Threat Signal.

Soooo If you read my last entry ( If you haven't go do so..... it's a vlog for crying out loud...) you know that I had the opportunity to interview thee AWESOME, Death Angel along with Threat Signal. I also got to meet the Lead Vocalist of Bound By Blood Mauro Gonzalez. But yes, edited of course, by the owner and operator of www.introduceyourselfzine.com, Mr. Tim Morris. As I promised here are the interviews......

Death Angel

http://introduceyourselfzine.com/interview-ted-of-death-angel/

Threat Signal

I had an utter blast with both interviews! Though you can't really tell that mere seconds before it actually started I was just about shitting bricks. Obviously I was much more nervous interviewing Death Angel being that they are pretty much legends at this point..... I T-Rex armed it and all. I'm proud of myself for not being a complete pud and going through with it. I was originally going to decline the offer, but I felt opportunities usually on present themselves one in a life time....... and It was a MUST that I interview the band that kinda had a helping hand with starting it all.

I've not edited it... at all. I probably should have but what the hell, I've come to terms with the fact that I don't really have all that much time to do somethings..... & I would like to keep things up to date as much as possible. Though I've been slacking hardcore lately. Anyway here is the vid.
